Hey, All!

Long time no see. The garden is pretty much all done producing, although we're still trying to put it to bed for the winter.

I've been busy on another project, though. I'm speaking for our local MOPS group this coming Tuesday, and I've created a good bit of additional content for my website to go along with it. I'm pleased with the results and hope that you will find many points to ponder.

Breakfast

I just finished eating breakfast a while ago. I had an egg sandwich and fried cabbage. Mmm. The bread was homemade. The egg was from our chickens. The cabbage--and the tomato and lettuce on the sandwich--were from our garden. And the cheese on the sandwich? We made it from our own goat's milk.

Now THAT was satisfying.

Hey, long time no see! I literally haven't put anything new on my website for months! But I find that to be typical in the spring...I'm usually out in the garden or the barn or, or just outside!

But things have come up and I've added some sections to my website. This was kind of like a "duh" moment. When I added The HomeSchool Neighborly a year ago, I made it into its own section. So then just recently when it became necessary to get my husband's business up and running again, I said, "Duh! I can just put it in as a section on my website!" So here it is.

And then another, "Duh!" When the North Fairfield Farmer's Market got started and NEEDED a website, you know, how everybody needs a website, I thought, "Well, duh, I'll just make another section on my site!"

Granted, they are simple sections, but the needs are simple. The HomeWorks section will grow a little as we add photos of his completed jobs. But mostly we just want people to be able to know that HomeWorks is a reputable company operated by honest people.

And we want others to know what dates the Farmer's Market will be operating. So there you go. All my reasons for getting busy once again and adding a little to my site.

Back to Work

Hey, I've finally gotten back to work on my website! It's exciting again. See, I made this new year's resolution that I wanted to actually WORK on my web/writing some every day, and so far, I've been motivated to get us moving on our homeschool work EARLY in the day, every day, so that we can ALL have some time for individual projects in the afternoon.

And considering that it is STILL below zero degrees Fahrenheit at almost 3:00 in the afternoon--with the sun shining--I guess that's as good a time as any to be tucked away in the house working.

Because once spring rolls around and the temperatures get into the human zone again and the ground starts calling to me...well, who knows how much time I'll have at the computer?

At any rate, what have I been doing, you ask? What have I been doing. Hmm. Let me think. Oh. I made some decisions on what stays and what goes on my site. I'm trying to focus on what I REALLY want to accomplish. The section I've been working on most, though, is the baby section. I've finally gotten around to cleaning up those articles and adding a few others.

But I'm not done! I just figured it was time to tell you about it. I hope you'll take a bit to look around. I love it when people visit my site. Especially if they can get a good laugh out of anything they find there.

The HomeSchool Neighborly, December 2008

Is there anyone else out there like me? You know, sometimes you like doing something and other times you don't?

Take me, for example. Sometimes I enjoy cooking. Other times I can't stand it. Sometimes dishes are just another chore, other times, they're obnoxious. Sometimes I just love working on my website. Other times, just shoot me.

Or am I just weird?

Hmm, don't answer that.

I mean, usually it's seasonal. When it's nice outside and the garden is in full swing, I don't have time to work at the computer. Then when it gets cold and we head back indoors, that's where I am in my free time.

But this year, well, I just haven't gotten in the swing of things yet. It could be that homeschooling is a little more formalized for us this year. We've set some wonderful goals and truly are having a wonderful time achieving them. But it's taking more of my time.

It could be also that I've taken on a large responsibility at church for our Angel Food Ministry program. That might be contributing.

Or the fact that I've been called upon to sub for our church musician A LOT this fall and am now playing full-time until we can replace him...he left. Sigh.

It's probably some of all of those things, I suppose. But if you want to know the truth of the matter, I think mostly it's being 40.

Remember last winter when I complained about how everyone kept saying, "Oh, now that you're 40...?" Yeah, well honestly there have been a lot of changes since I turned 40 last January, just not the ones the medical professionals in my life kept predicting.

Things like, I feel like I've finally grown up and can be the adult around children who need guidance and have none. Or, I'm starting to see the value of the beautiful in my life, rather than only seeing the usefulness of the functional. And the fact that, for better or for worse, I've finally reached the ultimate conclusion that I have no use for stupidity.

All these things have come upon me in this past year. For the most part, I welcome them. But some things are less welcome. Like, I feel less settled. I needed a longer vacation than we had. I actually got TIRED of being at home. I needed a bigger break from my routine than I got. And...dare I say it...I might actually embrace setting out on a new adventure should my husband deem it necessary. I'll say no more there; see, I've also learned to stop putting ideas in his head.

Well, I went on longer than I intended to, just to say that I haven't been getting too much posted to my site since last spring. I've kept up with my newsletter, mostly, and came here to announce the December issue. Pretty long-winded way to do that, isn't it? Ha.

I'm Still Alive--Sort Of

So here's me, still running behind and it's October now...sigh. I came to write on my blog thinking that I had only missed announcing the September issue, but as you can see, I missed the August AND September issues of The Neighborly. How irresponsible is that?

Of course, when you consider the fact that I've spent days and days and days in the kitchen with jars and jars and jars of green beans and beets and tomatoes and pears and peaches and...well, maybe you'll forgive me?

That, and I've taken on a new ministry job. Can I tell you about it? Our church has become a host site for Angel Food Ministries. In essence, Angel Food helps people to stretch their food dollars. Once a month you can buy a $30 box of food that is worth $60-75. There are no requirements of any kind; anyone can buy a box.

The really cool part is, well, there are lots of cool parts. But one is that you can buy "specials" along with the main box. Many of them are meat specials, like a grill box or chicken tenders. Stuff like that. And they have an all-fruit and -vegetable box. In November they are going to do a Thanksgiving meal as one of their specials.

Another really cool thing is that the main box contains a number of meat items. And we all know how expensive meat is at the grocery store.

Anyway, my job is to serve as the director of this program for our church. These first couple of months have had a lot of learning attached to them, so I've been extra-busy, and if you know anything about me, you know how I don't like to have myself scheduled full.

But it is all even-ing out now, homeschooling is in full swing, the applesauce is made (just this morning), and we are starting to think about our trip home to Kansas to see my family in November. But don't worry! It's not until AFTER the November 5 "Neighborly" deadline. =]

I'm running a bit behind in telling you about it here, but the July issue is out. I hope you'll check it out and most importantly, share it with your friends.

Next most important is that I hear from some of you. I need more interviews for future editions of The Neighborly! It doesn't hurt, really, and you only share what you are willing to share.

I'd love to hear from some people outside of my own area of the state--and even from other states.

Your experiences, both positive and negative, can help other homeschoolers as they go through similar experiences. We can all learn from each other, lean on each other, and lift each other up by sharing just a little bit of ourselves. And the world of the internet has made more avenues for that to happen.

Oh, yes, I remember. I wrote about it on June 3rd. But now I've got a new page added!

Besides the cool page about "Internet Resources for HomeSchooling", I now have a really neat page about how to get started homeschooling! It's called, "How to HomeSchool Kindergarten".

But guess what? It contains nuggets of truth that can help you start homeschooling--no matter what age your child.

I encourage you to check it out. And while you're at it, how about checking out "The HomeSchool Neighborly?" It's a five-minute monthly publication designed to help homeschoolers build connections with other homeschoolers. That's important, you know. We all need someone to lean on every now and then.

The Movies

Sometimes my family is so silly.

Ah, but sometimes it's not funny. Sometimes I get tired of being the voice of reason, the heavy, the spoil sport.

But in this case, they've found a way to accept what must be, have fun with it, and get along in the process.

At least, I think that's what's happening. Of course, I know NONE of them would turn down a movie anytime I said, "Yes".

I mean, I can go to bed early on a Friday night when I can't keep my eyelids open any longer (another one of those things that happens after you turn 40--be sure to read "XL").

But my husband can have the same problem and if I happen to say that I'm going to stay up and watch a movie, you'd better believe he'll find a way to prop the 'ole eyelids open and watch with me--even if it is a chick flick.

And the young men in my house, whoo boy, of course they'll watch a movie anytime, anywhere! Are you kidding?

So I guess when all is said and done, I still get to be the heavy. But the good thing is that I can poke a little [gentle] fun at them on my website, and they can't do a darned thing about it!

I Love My Pets But This Is Ridiculous

I really am an animal lover. Kittens need a home? Okay! Thank goodness we live out in the country where we can support my habit.

Oh, it's not just me, though. My husband brought home the last batch of kittens that came perilously close to getting dropped off somewhere. Yeah, they got dropped off alright--at our house.

But they're so cute! I love watching them play.

And actually, they still are cute. It's not them that's ridiculous right now. Oh, no. That would be the dog.

Oreo, to be exact. She's 13 and really healthy. Up until Friday, that is. You see, well, never mind. I'll just let you read it.

And once you do, you'll understand my decision: no more dogs.

Yep, it's official. There will be no more dog adoptions in our family. I'm so pathetically incompetent when it comes to training dogs, that they never actually learn who's boss. Well, yes they do. That would be THEM.

Nope. I'm finished with dogs. Dogs are too much work. They can't roam freely and hunt for their dinner like cats can. They have to be contained and cleaned up after and taken for walks and given rabies shots and county tags...

I'm definitely finished with dogs...

...

...at least until the next set of sad puppy eyes comes along that needs a good home.

It's finally here!

I've been working for two months, and it's finally here!

Uh, when I say working, I mean working in the scraps of time I can find around homeschooling the children and the lure of the sunshine that has finally graced Ohio with its presence.

What Is She Up To?

I really have been a busy bee this past couple of months, but not all of that busy-ness has translated to new stuff on my site.

I have two projects that I'm working on, one of which is updating my diaper service book. I hope to have it done soon and posted on my site.

The other project, however, is top-secret and known only to my immediate family. Don't bother trying to coerce it out of them; they won't tell you! I can tell you this, though: it will be done by the end of the calendar year. I am very excited and can't wait to share it with you all.

On that note, I shall sign off. I just wanted you to know what I'm up to and why my site is static for the time being.

Hope some of you have some sunshine to enjoy. Us? We have ice.

It's Another Miracle

Working on my site, writing, two days in a row??? =]

Well, actually, this is one of those weeks where you have a variety of commitments and--well--I just find it easier, as a homeschooling family, to use the interim times on days like this to have the boys read. Read their literature, their historical biographies, their inventions books, and so on. They also love to listen to books on tape. And Orion, well, he likes to program. Yep, on the computer. He's 11.

Rather than trying to fit a science experiment in when we don't have proper time to set it up, rather than slipping a math lesson in between the funeral and the Lenten church service, we utilize the spare moments to read.

I've always believed that reading is the academic foundation of our education, anyway. And days like this give us the perfect opportunity to utilize it.

All that, just to say that in my spare moments today, I was able to get another essay prepared for my site, and it goes under my new category, "It's a Miracle". This one is called, "The Miracle of Life". I hope you enjoy it. I also posted a picture on that page, because I know you'll like seeing the little guy.

But I'm not telling you any more than that. You'll have to go read it for yourself.

And would you do me a favor? If you see anything--among the wide variety of articles I have on my site--that would interest a friend, would you send them my way? Let them start here if you like, or send them directly to my site. I'd just like to get the word out about what I'm doing, and I could sure use your help in doing it.

It's a Miracle!

I have a new section added to my site! LOL

If I could have just one wish, it would be a little more time to spend working on my site and writing without sacrificing any of the time needed to homeschool my boys or take care of my family.

But enough time or not, I've managed to get another section added to my site and it's called...

...can you guess?

It's called, "It's a Miracle".

Here's a little blurb from the main page of the section:

"I've decided that I want to share, on my site, some of the things that God has been doing in my life. Specifically, answered prayers which help me to know that He cares about us and all the little details of our lives."

So far, I have two entries in this section. They are entitled, "Be Sure to Take Your Vitamins" and "The Night of The Ice Storm".

I hope you enjoy them, and I hope that you will consider sharing with me your very own miracle, if you have one. You can do so through email; there's a link on the main page of each section. Or you can post here. I'd love to have some comments posted to my blog.

Hey, ho!

I haven't written since before our trip home to Kansas to visit my family. (It was a good trip, by the way, but soon I hope to share with you the travel horror story we picked up on that trip in "You've Got to Be Kidding!")

Anyway, I've finally gotten back to work on my site, and I have two new sections to share with you! One is entitled, "Chuckles" and it's just what it says it is. Cute or funny short-shorts that are meant to make you laugh. Read my first entry here.

Then, if you have a cute or funny story to tell, why don't you email it to me? Perhaps it'll make it onto my site!

The second section is called, "A Matter of Faith" and I'm including it as a way to share my thoughts on being a Christian. If you have no interest in reading such things, then feel free not to. But please also feel free NOT to bash me for its inclusion.

About Me

Wouldn't you know it? My "About Me" post was too long! I decided to put it here so you could know more about me.

My name is Chantal, and I am a home-educating mom who operates this internet-based business from home. Some people call me a WAHM (work-at-home-mom).

I bought a cloth diaper delivery service (Cottontails Diaper Service) in December of 1997 and operated it through the fall of 2001. When our family moved from Kansas to Ohio, it became difficult to grow the business, and I opted to let the delivery portion of it go.

I had, however, been developing a small but manageable website, which I maintained for several more years. As my own children grew out of diapers, I expanded what I offered beyond diapering supplies. Now that we have finally found and bought our mini-farm, my priorities have changed--and my website along with them. Rather than spending time packing up boxes of products to ship to you, I'm using my love of writing to promote the products that I love. I'm reviewing them on my site--for you.

Additionally, I love the way the internet helps people like me to utilize their interests and build a business at the same time. I hope to help you do the same thing through my business opportunity articles and guides.

And finally, I still have a soft spot in my heart for parents of babies in diapers. I'm working on a series of articles, ebooks, and link lists to help parents in their diapering decisions.

A Brand New Products Site!

Hi!

It's been awhile. The summer has kept me very busy with the garden, the animals, canning, and plenty of homeschool field trips. Swimming, vacation Bible school, camping...it truly has been a busy summer.

But my mind has always been working in the background, trying to clarify what exactly it is that I wish to accomplish with my website. And I'm making progress!

I'm happy to note that I've created a format that I believe reflects my goals more accurately than the site previously did. At present you'll see much of the same info, but in a different way. However, I'm busily working on NEW information to be included on my site, in between canning beans, tomatoes, and peaches, that is...

I hope you'll check it out and let me know what you think. I'm sure there might be a few bugs and a few confusing things and even some things that simply need to be changed. Help me correct those things. And let me know what you'd like to see.

What Is Products For A Good Life?

Products For A Good Life is a company dedicated to bringing you a collection of the very best products and services that can improve your life. It's a varied group, currently including baby items, pet supplies, and business opportunities.

My collection is so varied because I really am quite picky about the products I will endorse. I believe in using safe, healthy, and all-natural products whenever possible. If it says it's 100% natural, that has to be true or I won't carry it--or use it.

In addition, the product has to work. I've tried plenty of all-natural products that just weren't satisfactory in their performance. So--the list of products that meet my criteria is quite small: baby diapers and wipes, odor eliminator, and body lotion.

Another thing you should know: every product I sell on this site, I use. For example, consider Aubrey Organics Body Lotion. I've been using it for at least ten years. That's product loyalty!

Or the PureAyre odor eliminator products (also on the Pet Page). I've only been using them for a few months, but all my research and all my trials have shown me this product meets my criteria.

And although we're officially out of diapers, we still find the wipes useful for many purposes, particularly when traveling.

Now here's a product I use that doesn't qualify in the "natural" category: the Barna Diaper Sack. Nope, they're just handy.
